In the car, I typically listen to only talk radio which may seem dry but it's quite the opposite. I listen not just to know what's going on in the world (since that's basically my only contact with the outside), but also for the absurd stories in the world.
For example, to start off a story today, NPR began by saying that Rev. Al Sharpton had recently learned that he's a descendant of a slave who once belonged to an ancestor of the late Senator from South Carolina, Strom Thurmond. In case you didn't know, Sen. Thurmond once ran for the office of President under the Segregationist States Rights Democratic Party. That means he was all for separating caucasians from African Americans through policy and presidential directives. He was also a Senator at age 100. Now, I'm no political scientist nor am I one of the enlightened elite who carry Mensa membership cards, but I like to think I was blessed with a gift of strong common sense. Would I vote for someone pushing 80, let alone already almost to the triple digits in age? Heh-heh-hell no. I mean, seriously, do you think the Jr. Senator from S.C. liked sitting next to that old bastid when he forgot to wear his adult diapers into session? I'm sure he was a politician to the end which means he was easily excited and probably pretty reactionary to the things someone from the other side of the aisle said (BTW, he also switched teams a few times while in office finally settling on Republicratism) and, I'm just guessing, shat himself. Also, in case you didn't know - Rev. Sharpton is the guy who, oh forget it, I don't have the time it would take to say some wittily cutting remarks about him.
Guh-ross. Old-fogey-pooing his pants does not a politically engaging argument make.
Do I even have to say it? Do I? Ok, you twisted my arm. OH THE IRONY! I wonder what Poe and/or Gumby would have to say to that, my charming little mixed-race couple. Come on Rev. Sharpton - take the high road. OR, marry one of Thurmond's daughters. That's what a lot of us would like to see happen for a number of reasons.
Let's see, what else is new? It's Monday and I'm at school on an absolutely fanfuggingtastic late afternoon.
YAY ME.
