I have a facebook account. It's something a friend nudged and pleaded and goaded me into but I have to admit, I like it. It's one more degree of separation than email from people you keep in touch with regularly.
Of course, Facebook has to make money so there are ads on it, though serruptitiously disguised as a facebook widget or something. I have one question - what are these "high" standards they're talking about in this one? I mean, didn't they LOOSEN standards to get more people on fb? A while ago, you had to have an email address from an institution of higher learning, aka, and edu extension. Now any old shmoe can have a login.
I don't know why this caught my attention but it's just another example of what spaces like FB, MS and other social sites are trying to make money by putting you back into where you came out of in the first place - the actual social pool. Once these sites took on social importance, people started spending time with others THROUGH these sites instead of in person. And now the sites are trying to get monetize putting you back in physical touch with human beings. Funny.
