I'm neither a fan of Walmart (the great homogenizer) nor windows-based computers but today I got a feed with something that made me smile inside for a couple of different reasons.
Walmart and HP have teamed up to sell a laptop without a huge amount of packaging in an attempt to reduce non-used packaging and to provide a more environmentally-friendly option to consumers. This is a great idea. Walmart created a company-wide initiative where they ask their vendors to produce products for sale at its stores that would lessen their environmental impact. Kudos, Satan. Kudos.
The result? HP is now selling a laptop not in a big box covered in Windows-esque stickers and Styrofoam. Instead, they're selling the laptop in a messenger bag. Very clever and very re-usable. Talk about sustainability! What a great idea.
Now if Apple would just package my next macbook pro in a killer messenger bag of my choosing.
Here's the story on engagdet.
